Morehead City to Bellhaven

 3/15/2022

So calm you can't tell where the horizon is

Morehead City (Morehead City Yacht Club) to Belhaven (Dowry Creek Marina)

It was a cloudy start that turned to sun before we left the dock.  We left at 9:25 and enjoyed a very nice ride. I think it was 71 miles, most of it was fast over open water, just some slow spots with docks and houses but that was not the majority of the trip.  We went through the Neuse River at it was very calm.

Phew, happy to have passed without incident

Last year when we were on the Neuse, it was nasty, we had things falling off all the shelves, and other things banging around, this time the Neuse was nice.  You would not know you were in the same place at all, the weather makes such a difference.

Happy hour

We made it to Dowry Creek Marina by 1:45, a pretty short day.  We are still ahead of most of the transients that will be traveling from South to North so we have not had any problems getting reservations, which is certainly nice for us.  As I mentioned in the previous post, this marina does not have floating docks.  It is a bit more challenging to get Parker (and myself) off the boat.  He has to wear his life preserver that has a handle on it and Sandy has to assist him up on the dock as he was balking.  Getting down seems much easier for him.  We are just here for a night and move on so we will deal with it.

slip #1, kind of exposed

We wanted to go into the town of Belhaven so I could mail something so they gave us the key to a loaner car, a Mercedes! It was old, but it worked great and we were able to do our errand and return back to the marina.  They are building a restaurant on site but that will not be open until late summer so we are cooking on the boat again.  It is making us use our food that we really don't want to be hauling back home anyway so it works out well.

might borrow this idea to heat the pool
coiled hose on the roof

Tomorrow we head to Coinjock, with one last stop for fuel.  Of course, since the war in Ukraine, all fuel is going up so it will be good to stop filling up every other day.  Until tomorrow, adieu!
