Saint Augustine to Brunswick Ga
3/5/2022
Foggy Day both inlets had worse visibility
Saint Augustine (Camachee Cove) to Brunswick (Morning Star Marina)
Almost whole trip had limited visibility the radar was on non stop
We originally wanted to go early - 8 AM, but the forecast was for the fog to burn off by 9:00, so that is when we departed - in heavy, heavy fog. We made our way to the inlet using our fog horn, visibility was close to nothing. The inlet was very, very rough and Rosemary definitely had second thoughts about the ocean, but she did not want to go backwards and find another marina in St Augustine, so we forged ahead. There were really big rollers out in the ocean, 5-6 feet. We did continue all the way to Morningstar Marina in the Golden Isles but the crew (Rosemary and Parker) were not too happy. I think Rosemary took two Bonine tablets and Parker was given a whole tranquilizer. The fog was intermittent the entire day but really closed in again 2-3 miles from the inlet we wanted to enter. it was really thick. Fortunately we had been in this inlet before and had tracks to follow, it was difficult to see the sea buoys until you were almost on top of them. We had to run the radar the entire day as well, just to be able to see boats, there weren't too many of them out there as it was not nice.
Brunswick lighthouse when we got inside the Inlet things completely cleared
We have been noticing the our engine coolant is not where it used to be and is climbing the faster we go, it reduced the temperature when we slow down. Sandy, our friend Ed, and my brother all thought the same thing, that the raw water intake for the cooling system is obstructed somehow. Perhaps while we were sitting for a month in Key West, as we did not have this problem on the way there. Our coolant temperature was getting to a point where we were really uncomfortable, and our hot exhaust sensor went off right as we were getting to our dock for the night. We were very grateful to shut down and glad we made it.
We were looking forward to a nice dinner all day
By the time Sandy washed the boat and Rosemary walked Parker, it was almost time to go to our very early dinner. Realizing it was Saturday night, we made a reservation at the restaurant that is at the marina and we were only able to get a 5:15 reservation, considering the day this worked out pretty perfectly.
Nice big tranquilizer
Early to rise, early to go to bed, tomorrow is another day and we will be doing some checking and small maintenance that we are able to do and see if we can proceed or if we have to stay here and figure things out.
