Halifax Harbor to Camachee Marina
Way out at end of dock, we are last boat |
Beautiful morning with a forecast high of 81, started in the 60's. We left Halifax Harbor after depositing our dock gate cards in the basket extended towards us by the gas dock attendant. It always amuses us that this is how we return the cards.
Almost all of this trip is slow, even though it says we can go 25, the entire strip of the ICW here has houses with docks , oftentimes on both sides so we go slowly. Most of the houses on the waterway are pretty nice, some have bike paths running right along side the ICW which would be pretty to ride.
Camachee Cove is a marina that we have not been to yet but were recommended to us by our friends. The first marina we used in St. Augustine was the city dock, very strong current, and because it is public, you had all kinds of people coming onto the docks day and night to ogle the boats, not a very comfortable situation. The next two times we stayed at Conch House Marina but whether in a slip or on their face dock you are feeling motion the whole time, so we weren't overly pleased there either. Onto our next try!
Fog! |
So, this was really unfortunate. The marina is very protected, if you are in the marina proper (I guess that would be how to say that). We were assigned the very first slip in the entranceway of the marina. There is a very substantial current going sideways into the narrow channel to enter the marina, in order for boats to overcome that current, they have to power through it, therefore they should get through it and slow right away as to not create a wake for the unfortunate souls who have a slip in the entranceway - us! Not all the boats do that, they continue to power into the marina rocking us. It is not a good situation so we decided to head into the ocean Saturday morning, although we had another obstacle, FOG11We are on our way to Brunswick, GA.
What a difference a day makes first view of Saint Augustine |
