Key West to Marathon
2/26/2022
Key West to Marathon, and so it begins after a lovely rest.
Night before departure, grilled Cobia for dinner ready to go |
Short trip today, nice to start with to get reacquainted with traveling. Headed to Marathon Safe Harbor where our friends with a sister boat are spending a week before heading to Stock Island.
So we left at 8:50 AM and were helped off the dock by a very kind gentleman who has a DeFever on our dock. John helped us off and said he wished he was traveling, that is the part he loves, the moving, I love the staying! Anyway, the waves were exactly what Rosemary was dreading, 3-4 foot at fairly close intervals. Parker was a little unsettled, but still worth getting two hours (in these conditions 3 hours) ahead of the journey on Sunday. Sandy had to wash the boat well, she was full of salt from the journey to Marathon, we had to close the hatch over our heads because we were getting wet a few times, that is not calm seas.
Kind of ominous, hope we are not followed by a storm cloud heading home |
Our friends met us incoming to the fuel dock and helped with our lines, we were assigned a slip without a floating dock and were able to switch to a floating dock near them because the boat that was supposed to occupy the slip had not arrived yet, Good for us!
Moderate Chop - short steep 3 - 5 footers
We had a nice day with our friends at the pool and they invited us for dinner on their boat. Very nice to know people along the way.
Went slowly the whole time, whole boat is going to get washed at dock |
We will be leaving tomorrow morning around 9:30 because the forecast calls for decreasing winds during the day, so we may start out with similar conditions as we had today. I am keeping my fingers crossed that things are a bit nicer or Bonine is in my future and Parker is getting a full tranquilizer
Boat all washed and tucked in for the night |
