Oriental to Morehead City Yacht Basin
Red in Morning |
1/6/2022
We returned the rental car today in the morning after a beautiful sunrise walk with Parker. Took our time leaving because it is a short day today, less than thirty miles. Short ride in the Neuse River before entering protected water. As with the first day of the first leg, Small Craft Advisories were listed later in the day for the Neuse. We had dolphins surfing our wake for a while, no pictures, we were enjoying the moment.

Snug in a slip for a strong cold front |
We had clear calm seas for the ride to Morehead City Yacht Basin. We have been to Beaufort, NC and really liked the town and the neighborhood, but this is the "sister city," and we thought we would see what this is like. We arrived and Lee, the dockmaster asked us if we wanted a slip rather than be tied to a face dock as we were expecting high winds, we happily said yes, please. The winds picked up over the night and are still strong today. We are really in a great spot as there is a great big Azimut yacht on the face dock opposite and it is taking most of the wind and waves, not us! Lee is a retired coast guard officer of 30 years, very nice guy. We are catching up on some paperwork and laundry on a day when we are not traveling.
Grumpy's for a great breakfast |
Beautiful sunny day, but cold and windy, we got this slip for two nights as Sandy knew the wind would not make traveling easy. Also, as Sandy is a good Captain, he reads all the notices to local mariners and the railroad bridge immediately beyond this marina is and has been closed daily for repairs. It was supposed to be open this morning (Friday) but I guess it is not fixed yet, hopefully it will be by tomorrow morning when we depart for Harbor Village Marina in Hampstead, NC. If not, there is a work around, but it will take longer.
Even Poseidon got a covid shot this year! |
This marina is full of very, very large, beautiful sport fishing boats that all seem to have their own mate(s) to keep them looking perfect. We are the very small fish in this big pond.
