Jekyll Island to St Augustine

Walking in historic district

Jekyll Island (Jekyll Island Marina) to St Augustine (Conch House Marina)

Full moon and calm morning for departure

With a favorable forecast we are going to try another outside run, exiting the ICW at Fernandina Inlet to St Augustine inlet.  Both are very well marked and well traveled inlets.  We will wait for things to calm down and review the forecast Monday night before our travel day on Tuesday.

We decided to go outside so we could go all the way to St. Augustine.  We hit some very, very shallow water where the bottom must have shoaled and the marker was moved, we got just on the wrong side of the marker, oh oh......After the shoaling incident, we passed the Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base.  They use the Fernandina Beach inlet which is the one we were using to access the ocean.  You have to go a very long way out into the inlet before you can turn north or south.  There is a rock wall on both sides of the inlet that can be totally submerged.  Much better to be careful.

There was a submarine at the dock at the base,
the gunboat was aggressive in making certain the area was secure

Even though the seas had really calmed down, this was not really Rosemary's kind of day in the ocean.  We were glad when we got to the marina at dead low tide, more shallow water!

There were many draggers working outside of St Augustine

Although it was pretty calm it was
rolly and Rosemary was not thrilled

Our friends are staying at a different marina tonight, but we are going to join up with them tomorrow for the trip down the ICW to Daytona Beach.  They are staying at the Halifax Harbor Yacht Club and we are at the Halifax Harbor Marina, very close to each other.  This will be inside, probably take about 5 hours.

Safe and Sound at dock saved at least an hour by running outside
about 4 hours today, Finally in Florida!
