Georgetown to Charleston

Lots of very large boats at this Marina

White Pelicans
More impressive before they split into two groups

1/9/2021 we left Georgetown headed for the Mega Dock in Charleston 67 miles.  33 Gallons because much of the trip was slow, docks and speed zones, and low tide.  5 hours.  Mostly sunny and cool, didn't need heat on the cruise.  Left at 10:00.  Passed a working dredge today in a shallow area at low tide.  You pass on the side with Diamond day shapes and was notified to stay tight to the dredge to find enough water to transit.  We were close enough to shake the operators hand (not during Covid) and barely had 1' of water below our boat.

Many distinctive examples
of historic architecture

Josh made it here, left a day earlier
from Georgetown than we did and arrived
a couple of hours after us

We were near the end of the outside face dock.  There was a young lady and an older gentleman that helped us dock.  Both were very knowledgeable and helpful.  I tipped the young lady and tried to tip the gentleman but he was just another boater so she got double!  Ends up he had a very big boat but he and his wife were so friendly.  They were enjoying their Happy Hour checking out the new arrivals.

During the rest of the day and as early as 5:00 AM we were exposed to inconsiderate boaters who don't care about their wake.  It was not as bad after dark . This is a known thing when you are on the outside of this dock, one of the reasons Rosemary did not want to stay more than one night.  Also it was more than a half mile walk to get Parker off the dock for relief.

We did take a long walk along the waterfront to downtown and back thru the center of Charleston.  Had Shrimp we picked up in Georgetown and hors d'oeuvres.  Too tired tonight after all the walking to make an actual dinner.

Beautiful morning  Parker had already
gotten a walk in

Gorgeous chilly morning
Ready for a long ride

  1. Wow. The low level dredge sounds a bit scary. The rockiness from fast flying boats is not nice. Etiquette is something to be learned and taught! Beautiful
Photos. You are moving along pretty quickly! Stay safe- miss you. ❤️👍🏻
