Belhaven to Beaufort NC

Sunset last night in Belhaven

immediately followed by the Moonrise

We got the call verifying that we could come to Beaufort and stay at Homer Smith docks for 3 nights, Saturday, October 31, departing Tuesday morning, November 3rd.  Weather and wind issues Sunday into Monday were troubling so that was welcome news.  Homer Smith docks are very nice, but it was really windy when we docked.  We had our first little boo boo with the boat.  Bumped a piling coming in.  Interestingly the owner and his son of Homer Smith have Covid and one of the regular slipholders, a canvas guy, is running the dock for them.  Unbelievable.  I have to say, he is very knowledgeable and doing a great job - it is just strange.

We left by 10:00, Uneventful ride, some white caps in the open areas but nothing too bad.  We saw our first dolphins and we are now seeing lots of pelicans.  Beaufort is much larger than Belhaven.  Pretty much everything is open here, restaurants and stores.  It was Halloween, so as we walked to dinner, we saw lots of young and old trick or treaters.  People do not seem to be afraid of coming out and doing things in spite of Covid

We had a really nice dinner, sitting outside, under a tent with flame heater next to us.  We had a great waitress who was dressed up including a Happy Halloweener hat.  We had a pleasant rest of the night.  Rosemary walked Parker all around Beaufort on Sunday morning while I did some things around the boat, then we biked.  The town is really pretty with beautiful homes, so many of them on the historic register.  Makes you want to look at Zillow.  We had lunch and walked Parker again, big wind and rain storm mid afternoon.  We are making spaghetti and meatballs for dinner on the boat.

Rode our bikes around town and to pick up
groceries for dinner

More adventures in Beaufort tomorrow.
