Norfolk to Coinjock

Left Norfolk at 9:10 headed south.  We were planning on taking the Virginia Cut, Interesting to see the sign for the alternate route thru the Dismal Swamp.  Arrived at Great Bridge Lock at 10:20, with 2 sailboats and about 8 powerboats. Lock opened at 10:30.  We were quickly thru the lock as we were only raised about 2 inches.  The Great bridge opens on the hour, so we only had a few minutes wait and we were on our way.  The next few bridges were also short waits so we were quickly moving on toward an early arrival at Coinjock.  We heard that on Thursday, October 29th, a cement barge hit the railroad bridge over the ICW and it is closed for repairs with no set timetable!  We know it will be fixed but we feel lucky that we weren't starting a day or two later! We arrived at Coinjock before 1:30 where we refueled and were tied to a face dock with our anchor pulpit over the cockpit of the boat in front of us and the boat behine us had his anchor pulpit over our dinghy.  Tight, tight fit, they pack them in!  It is not unusual to dispense 10,000 gallons per day of diesel fuel!!  The only other thing at this marina is a restaurant, the claim to fame is their prime rib.  We both got it but would skip it next time.  It was good, but it's prime rib, which you can get anywhere.  They seemed to have other interesting options for next time, but sitting outside facing the water was great.

We want to leave first thing in the morning because bad weather is coming and we need to get through the Alligator River Swing Bridge.  If they have high winds over 30 MPH the bridge does not open.  It is at the bridgetenders discretion.  We have to make the bridge opening before it gets too bad!!
